Every once in a while you stumble into a creation that just hits all the right notes perfectly. The first time I did this with a drink, it was a cup of genmai cha with sweetened condensed milk that felt like warmth and comfort incarnate. Well, I've done it again. I have somehow made a drink that recreates the experience of eating apple slices with caramel dip. As usual, I wasn't using exact measurements, but I can estimate my recipe - 2 tbsp peach syrup, a small splash (maybe 1 tsp) vanilla syrup, 1/3 cup cream soda, and 1/3 cup water, swirled together in a little potion bottle. It tastes best as a moderate sip pulled over the tongue and quickly swallowed, as this allows the slight dryness to feel like the juice of an apple bite.

A few weeks back, I was assigned by my Wool Processing class to find some cattail, sit with it, and take a head if allowed. I knew well to listen to the plant and the environment. I thought of a spot, found a few heads, and listened. I received the following - a frog, geese with goslings, a particularly attentive female red-winged blackbird, and a whisper in the rain and wind, leave this place richer. I interpreted the creatures as a soft no and assumed the words' meaning to be to leave the lake a richer place than it was when I found it. So I thanked the spot and left.
Today I went back. I brought my spindle whorl and the wool I processed. I talked to the cattail - I forget now already what exactly I said, but the words aren't important anyways. I sat and spun for a while, maybe a couple hours. When I had spun a spool's worth, I gave the wool scraps to the edge of the water. After that, I walked around and took note of some of the species in the area, finding a few ripe blackcap raspberries (Rubus leucodermis) amidst all the invasive Himalayan blackberries (Rubus armeniacus). But I was blessed by an even greater bounty when I listened to a warm draw from a patch of tall grass - plenty of Hypericum perforatum, common St. John's wort. St. John's wort is a plant I've been thinking a lot about recently. As an herbal supplement, some of its functions include inhibiting serotonin reuptake and hastening the metabolizing of estrogen, making serotonin and estrogen more and less freely available, respectively. Both of these are ideal effects for me. This plant is also introduced and considered somewhat invasive, so it's certainly no ecological problem for me to forage a handful of flowers. Obviously, I made the most of the gift and did so. I'm hoping to make a tincture or something with them. Lechon liempo - roasted pork belly - is the smaller companion to lechon baboy, a whole roast pig. On both, the outer skin is thick and very crispy, yielding a good crunch, while the inner meat is generally tender but not very flavorful. It is very rarely served alone, and at minimum comes with white rice and a spiced vinegar and soy sauce dip. Lechon liempo takes several hours to cook, while lechon baboy can take most of the day, so they are often a centerpiece of meals at parties and gatherings.
There are several Filipino street food staples: the desserts, the ones tourists think are strange, and the ones I actually see people eat. That last category consists primarily of fishbol and tempura, though shumai can easily fit in there as well. Kwek kwek edges the category, but the bright orange and the quail eggs slide it into the second. Either way, my food processor just came in so I'm finally able to make tempura!
Now, this isn't the tempura that is just meat or vegetables breaded and fried. This tempura is meat that is flaked and made into a batter. The method for making it is very similar to that of fishbol and kikiam, though fishbol is made with fish and kikiam is made with pork. Tempura is usually made with shrimp, I believe, though I'll be making it with chicken, since I'm on the path to pollotarianism. I've scoured the internet for recipes for this, even going so far as - *gasp!* - the second page of google... But alas, very little was to be gained. So what I'll do is work from what I had, then I'm going to make update posts adjusting the recipe. (Oh, and stay tuned for the other things I make - milk tea, halo halo, kwek kwek, leche flan, lumpia, and moorreeee.... once I get around to that, of course.) rediscovered this tale bc of my folklore class.
bruh the bremen town musicians really be like "okay, so there's an ass and a bitch and a puss and cock, and they, um... sing. yeah." and that's it. but anyways i was reading an annotated version of it that was talking about how it's actually about people being deemed useless by society/their masters (the donkey can't carry grain anymore, the dog can't hunt or have pups anymore, the cat won't hunt mice anymore, and the rooster is to be cooked for guests) and in finding that in common along with a common goal (deciding to become bremen town musicians), they exhibit cooperation and "egalitarian solidarity" so that they can protect themselves and each other, and overcome obstacles like the intruders, who are similarly social rebels, but who are heirarchal and so don't work together well and don't value each other as much. something something communism wink wink nudge nudge. read it here: www.surlalunefairytales.com/a-g/bremen-town-musicians/bremen-town-musicians-tale.html finally, a third design is live on my artist shop! this new one is the deliverer of souls. as with my other designs, it is available on shirts, hoodies, stickers, magnets, greeting cards, and more. the stickers are a little messed up, and i'm trying to figure that out right now, but all it is is that it appears on a white rectangle instead of being outlined. anyways, go check it out!
ALSO: threadless now has an option for charities, so now 10% profit from all purchases go to the trevor project! <3 > winter solstice 2020 is right around the corner as i type this, though it'll already be by the time this posts. coincidentally, it also lines up with the great conjunction of saturn and jupiter, as well as the last half-moon of the year. > it's symbolic, almost. a new beginning, a midpoint, an extreme, and an alignment of things. it really gets me to think about how my emotions have been. right now, it really does feel like a strange muddle of things. > bittersweet as always, i say. bittersweet is my favorite. > but not to get too off topic, so much has been going on lately. a lot of good, like getting projects and practice in, and clutching decent grades for fall quarter, and getting accepted into osu-cascades, but a fair bit of not-good as well. > it goes without saying that i, as with many people, am so emotionally wracked from this year and all that's happened from covid. > i realized that i don't really keep contact with my friends, but i also got back into contact with a really good friend who moved. i do hope that i get into great friendships in which i actually talk to people regularly, because right now i feel pretty lonely, even whilst knowing that i have friends behind me. > i also realized that i'm really not built for online classes. though i had a suspicion before already. > and maybe it just took two years to process, but i'm really starting to notice where i miss dad. i think about how he would do anything for us, and i think about what he would think of my art projects, and i think about how much i'm like him. i'm already so used to him not being here. it starts to hurt a little bit more every time i think about him. it's not a bad thing, though. pain is better than numbness, of course. > but with the turning of the seasons, we get a chance to change. > and with the longest night soon to be behind us, we get a chance to shed our sorrows. we'll look ahead to brighter days and better things. > we will rise or die trying. bonan nokton, and may you dream of stars,
marvi hhhhhrhhga hahhhhhhg hh
so anyways i just had this thought. dodgeball. as a primitive hunting game. so basically, you know how you pick out your team, right? you would have to pick out a hunting party. so you're gonna pick out some of your friends, bc they're your friends. you know them, you know how to work with them, and you're gonna have fun with them. but you're also gonna pick people that are good. bc then your team will be good. and you'll win. at hunting, that is. you'll get food. food good. so you're gonna pick good hunters, as well as good friends. and then you play. that is, you go out to hunt. you gather your hunting tools and scout out targets. and try not to die in the process. i mean that's basically it. dodgeball as a primitive hunting game. using other people and non-deadly weapons, e.g. balls, would let you practice the basic concept and skills without the danger. but it also having it against other people seems like it could be a war game... dodgeball as a simple war game.. hmmmm....... war as a primitive hunting game. 👁 👁 uhm anyways byeeeeee~ Marvi As I stumble across BDSM Tok, I become a little interested in bondage. Not how you thought this was gonna start? That's okay. The point is, I needed some rope. After looking around in my shed, I found two 3 1/2' lengths of 1/2" braided cotton rope, too short and a little thick to work with. In the backyard however, I had strung up some synthetic rope as a clothesline. I pulled it down and found it to be 1/4" and over 20' long. It was the right size, though not the most kind material. For practice, twisted poly would be fine, but it was the weather damage that got me iffy.
Yo so I was messin around and made some Minecraft-themed cursors... Y'know, the lil arrow thing that shows where your mouse is on screen? You know what a cursor is. Anyways, you can change those, and I made a few customs. The normal cursor is an iron sword, and there's a couple of cool ones like a feather/quill, clock (animated), and enchanted iron sword (animated). Here's the download if you want it:
It's a .rar file so you'll need WinRAR or something similar that can unarchive it.
Once you open or unarchive it, there's a set of instructions in case you haven't changed your cursor before. Cheers, hope you enjoy! AYYYYY WE GOT MERCHHHHHH!!!
Okay but fr I made an Threadless Artist Shop a short bit ago so there is only one design as of this post but you can now buy t-shirts, stickers, and more at amorlegends.threadless.com! I'll work on pricing and adding more designs over time, but I just wanted to put this out there =) So I finished these ones a long time ago.... but the blog editor on mobile sucks peepee. So, after yonking around in quarantine summer boredom, I remembered to post on my computer! As well, Weebly made some changes so I can't directly upload my HTML files anymore. I had to go through the process of uploading to my Google Drive, getting the share link, finding out that would only show the code, not play it, then getting the download code. Hopefully that works. Anyways, I only have two updates. I really thought I'd have more... Ah, here they are: Update #2 - "Snowscape"This one inspired by the winter days, or at least the traditional stereotypic ones. Having lived only between extremely temperate western Washington and tropical-by-definition Philippines, I wouldn't really know. But not get off topic, it features winter animals and snowy landscapes, hence the name. Link here. Update #3 - "Fighting the current"In the last update, I talked about my issue with the disappearing text. While that remained in Snowscape, I decided to weaponize it in a new piece. This one speaks of a fast-flowing river which you are in. Over the course of 5 minutes, your view changes, as it would if you really were underwater for 5 minutes. Moral of the story, you will get tired of fighting the current, no matter your swimming skill. Don't fall into a river, folks. Link.
Another remix for y'all!
I was holding off on posting this because I was working on another one as well and I wanted to post both of them at once, but something came up... On the second one I was working on, I ran into an issue where the text would start disappearing until eventually the poem stopped existing. Really strange, and I have no idea why it did that.
But anyways, working on these remixes is super fun and honestly so educational. I've gotten a good couple of learning experiences from working on the code, and I hope to learn from this issue as well. I'll probably post this other one tomorrow (or whenever I get to working on it), but it also gave me a couple of amazing ideas for other remixes.... ;) For now, you just enjoy this one. I'm coming back to this website after four-ish years because I created something... A cool thing that might be interesting to play with. I made... a piece of code. Or, I guess I didn't really make it, but I modified it to make it my own. Basically, I'm in this Creative Writing projects class, right? And our first unit is generative electronic poetry. One of the best main examples of this is Taroko Gorge, which has been remixed many, many times. One of my personal favorite remixes is Along the Briny Beach, but that's not as relevant as this next one. One of my assignments was to remix a remix, and I chose to remix Scholars contemplate the Irish beers. Links are on their respective titles, and the download for my piece is below.
Now, why did I decide to come all the way back to this irrelevant piece of garbage to post some piece of code that I changed like a max of 20% on? Well, for the roleplay. Or, sub-roleplay. I don't know how exactly to phrase it, but what I mean is, the code generates a piece of poetry that describes a random meadow. I thought this wold be useful to all... *checks traffic stats* ...zero of my pack members who are interested in feeling like they're living the wolf life. Yeah, that's how it be sometimes. *sigh* Whatever! Not important. What is slightly more important is that I'm putting it out there. This also finally, finally finally finally gives me something to throw on the roleplay subsection of the original website (link on the Secondary Site tab), which is its own entire page and has been empty since its creation. I don't even know why I made it. Anyways, I also have plans to modify this to create other scenarios, e.g. in a forest, on a beach, by a river, etc. So if you're interested, keep an eye out for those and keep pestering me on my instagram (@xxenderbornxx). Cheers all,
Marvi Okay. Um... So I just saw a preview of the movie Storks... And since I'm definitely a huge SU fangirl..... I had to make a million references wHOOPS.
